Market Research
We survey the full landscape of available products, including bestsellers on Amazon, vet-recommended options, and emerging brands with strong customer feedback. We typically evaluate 10 to 20 products before selecting our top 5.
Deep Review Analysis
We read thousands of verified customer reviews across multiple platforms, focusing specifically on negative reviews to identify real weaknesses that marketing materials hide. We weight recent reviews more heavily than older ones.
Expert & Vet Consultation
For health-related categories (food, supplements, dental care), we cross-reference our recommendations with veterinary guidelines and published research to ensure our picks are genuinely safe and effective.
Price & Value Analysis
We compare prices across multiple retailers and calculate cost per use where relevant, such as cost per pound for food or cost per day for supplements. The cheapest option is never automatically the best value.
Final Ranking & Writing
We rank products based on a weighted combination of all criteria below, then write our review with honest pros and cons for every product, including our top pick. We update reviews when products change significantly or better options emerge.

Who Actually Uses These Products
Most buying guides on the internet are written by someone who has never touched the product. We would rather tell you exactly which parts of ours are different.
Willemijn, in Lisse, has kept animals for around 45 years. She lives with Max, a German Shepherd of 8, and Beer, a housecat of about 14, and she has kept chickens, rabbits, a parakeet and a hamster along the way. Over those years she has bought and lived with a large share of the products we write about, from litter boxes to feeders to collars, and she gives us what she found: what wore out, what the animals refused, what she would not buy again. She is a close friend of the founder and she is part of PawPicks, which is exactly why we say so here rather than leaving you to guess.
We are adding her notes to the guides product by product, and we are deliberately slow about it. A page only shows a hands-on note where she genuinely used that product. Those notes carry her name, how long she used it, and which animal it was for. Where there is no note, the page is built the other way: verified buyer reviews, ingredient labels, spec sheets, and published veterinary guidance we link to so you can check it yourself. Both routes are honest work. They are just not the same thing, and pretending otherwise is how most of this industry lost your trust.
She is not paid per review, and nothing she writes about was sent to us free by a brand. We buy it, or she already owned it.
How These Guides Are Written
Research and first drafts are put together with AI assistance, working from spec sheets, ingredient labels, published veterinary guidance and verified buyer reviews. A person checks every recommendation before it goes live, decides the ranking, and cuts anything that cannot be backed up. The hands-on notes come from someone who actually used the product, and they are written in her words, not generated.
We mention it because you would reasonably want to know, and because a guide that hides how it was made is not one you should trust.
What We Do NOT Do
